If you have recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy S8, congratulations, you have in your hand one of the best mobile phones ever created. But once you get that box and dig into your new phone, you may have questions regarding initial charging. We are here to help. Contrary to popular belief, you do not need to fully charge a new mobile phone battery to 100% before initial use. This idea is a holdover from the days of Nickel batteries that would develop a ‘memory effect’ if not fully charged and fully discharged between recharges. This troublesome effect could significantly decrease battery lifespan and resulted in a lot of inconvenience as users attempted to time their charging to optimize for best performance. Those days are gone! Today, modern phones such as the Galaxy S8 use advanced Lithium batteries that work best with frequent charging cycles from varying battery levels. Although Lithium batteries are susceptible to overcharge and overdischarge conditions, they are all equipped with smart IC technology to automatically control and prevent these situations. For the user, charging couldn’t be easier, simply use the phone until it gets low and charge when you prefer. That being said, when you get your Samsung S8 from the manufacturer, it will have around a 40-50% charge. This is great because you can begin to use it right away. Go ahead and have fun! When it is time to charge the Samsung Galaxy S8 battery for the first time, keep in mind that you have several options.?
- Adaptive wall charger (fast charger) included in the Galaxy S8 box;
- Standard USB wall charger;
- Wireless charging pad;
- Fast charging wireless charging pad.
The adaptive wall charger is designed specifically for the S8 and is included in the box. This charger has a neat trick of adjusting its charging rate based on feedback from the phone itself. It begins with a quick charge rate of 9V1.67A when the battery level is lower than about 60%. Later as the battery level increases above 60%, the wall charger will automatically switch charging rate to 5V2A for the remainder of the recharge cycle. You can also use a standard USB charger at a rate of 5V1A or 5V2A but you will not enjoy the quick charge feature. In either case, make sure to use the Samsung recommended USB cable that was included with the phone. This cable uses the new USB-C standard and is not compatible with older USB cables without the use of an adapter. Galaxy S8 also supports both Qi and PMA wireless charging standards. Therefore, most aftermarket wireless charging pads can work with the phone. In this case, plug the wireless charging pad into the wall and simply place the S8 on top. Actual charging times for wireless charging will vary depending on the charging pad used.
In any case, when charging your Samsung S8 for the first time, make sure to observe and follow good phone charging practices:
- Use the proper charger and charging cable recommended by the manufacturer
- Make sure the phone and charger have proper ventilation and are not covered by objects
- Once the phone is fully charged remove from charger to avoid potential overheating
- When not in use, disconnect the wall charger from the wall socket to save power
? Because of its advanced features and quality Lithium battery, it is easy to charge for the first time, or begin using immediately and recharge when necessary. Follow the suggested guidelines to get the maximum performance and minimum charging times for your new device. Go Galaxy!!!
